Research - Economic and Business history - Sheffield Hallam University
Professor Peter Cain is continuing and extending his acclaimed work on
British imperialism and the concept of gentlemanly capitalism. Projects
underway are studies of the history of imperial economic throught in the
nineteenth century and of British business structure, including a study
of the evolution of the machine tool industry. Current research students
work on the development of the needlework industry, social development
in the coal industry and on liberal anti-imperialism in the Nineteenth
century.
